Excellent show for you guys today. My guest is 5 Star who you know from his 3rd Strike beastliness. The show is mostly about the upcoming California Regionals tournament which is January 17-18 at Denjin Arcade. Check out that thread to see what all the fuss is about. For those that haven’t heard, the main event is going to be a series of 5v5 exhibition matches between NorCal and SoCal in 3rd Strike, Street Fighter 4, ST, CVS and Marvel. Holy balls!
Other topics covered include:
Fatbear vs. Kai $1000-2000 money match
How YOU can qualify to be on one of the teams
Why this is important
What 5 Star learned in Japan while we were there for SBO ‘08
Thank you to Mr. X for the album artwork! Check out some of his work here.

Slightly different kind of show today guys. Alex Valle is the guest and we spend an hour talking with him about his illustrious Street Fighter career. If you haven’t heard of Alex Valle, you haven’t heard of arguably the most famous Street Fighter player of all time. A few of his accomplishments:
Won the Street Fighter Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000
First American to beat Daigo on American soil
Qualified for the very first SBO tournament in Japan
Topics discussed:
Alex’s rivals when he started out
How things were back in the day pre-console era
His experiences breaking new ground in the Street Fighter world by going to Japan
Future plans now that Street Fighter 4 is out
Overall, this show is a must-listen for anyone remotely interested in the fighting game community. A lot of the original players don’t get the credit they deserve for paving the way for newer guys such as myself. It’s great for new players who weren’t around when all these things were going on as well as for older players who were around and have fond memories of afternoon beatdowns at 7-11.
Also, thank you to D.S.H. for the awesome album artwork! If you would like to make one for the podcast, send it to gootecks (AT) gootecks (DOT) com.

This is the last video from our crazy SBO adventure! It starts with us on the plane flying to Honolulu for a 12 hour layover. We rent a car and then meet up with Dagger G who shows us around the area to the beach and the local arcade. Good times!
Back again with another video. This time we’re in Akihabara, which is the big electronics district in Japan. We take a look at some game stores, a retro game store and also a retro arcade. Enjoy!
Also here are some pics from Harajuku. In general, you can’t smoke outdoors in Japan, but in Harajuku there are these smoking stations where you can smoke. These smoking stations turned out to be pretty damn funny and I’ve included a couple of pics so you can see what I mean.
Funny stuff! Engrish signs and t-shirts are probably one of the things I enjoyed most about Japan lol.
