Arcade UFO

Monster show today with Texas legend fubarduck!

A little about fubarduck:

  • placed 5th in 3s with Chun Li at Evo 2007 and 2008
  • trained in Japan for a year and has a great understanding of the Japanese mindset
  • just opened up his brand new arcade in Austin, TX, Arcade UFO!

Topics covered:

  • the idea of playing against the character, not the player
  • his Chun Li vs. Ken strategy
  • Akuma in Street Fighter 4
  • Ways to land the Raging Demon in Street Fighter 4
  • The status of the SF4 scene in Austin
  • Staying solid under pressure

Here are the Arcade UFO pictures that we talk about on the show, courtesy of joystiq.com.
Also, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO THE PODCAST! I think there’s a lot of confusion about what subscribing is and why you should do it. Basically, when you subscribe in iTunes, new episodes download automatically for free. This means that you won’t have to check back on the site every couple of days to see if there is a new show, iTunes or another podcatcher will download it automatically and transfer it to your iPod/MP3 player.

My good buddy Fubarduck’s brand spankin’ new arcade, Arcade UFO is opening TOMORROW, Friday August 29th. Anybody anywhere near the Austin area should definitely be there to celebrate Austin’s latest and greatest arcade.

Here are 5 reasons this matters to you, even if you don’t live in the area:

  1. Fubarduck knows the fighting game community better than your regular Joe Schmoe arcade owner. That means you can count on the latest games and working controls because he wouldn’t want to play on craptastic sticks and buttons and you shouldn’t either.
  2. The last arcade in the area is gone now, so if you care about the fighting game community, you need to support the businesses that provide a venue to keep it alive.
  3. Arcade UFO has one of the few Street Fighter 4 setups in the country. AND he has the Vewlix setup which is what all the arcades have in Japan. Contrast that to Super Arcade’s setup which consists of a green tinted monitor, broken controls and dirty head to head cabinets. Why is that? Because Fubarduck understands how important it is for a game like SF4 to be experienced in the best way possible.
  4. They are open late! Wow, 4AM on weekends is late, even for someone like me in Southern California. You can tell an arcade gets it when they understand that their customers want to be out all night playing games. None of those “let’s close at 10PM on weekdays and 1AM on weekends” nonsense.
  5. Arcade UFO will be holding big tournaments in the future! So if you don’t live in the area, save your pennies and get ready to book your flight to Austin because a tournament run by Fubarduck will surely be something worthwhile to go to since he has been in the scene for so long and understands what makes a great tournament.
  6. So there you go, get ready for a new kickass arcade that’s going to help keep the scene alive for years to come!
