Last night at Hawaiian Brian’s in Hawaii there was potentially a major breakthrough in Street Fighter 4. Leviathan was kind enough to call me up and let me know the news so thank you to him for sharing this breaking news with me. Here’s the video:
Discuss. A player named Pretzels found this by accident tonight (hence the name). This video was taken earlier in the night. I can do it semi-consistently. This is done with Ken, but I’m not sure if other characters can do this.
How to do this:
kara f.mk into focus and dash out of focus right away.
motion: f.mk (hold) > mp > release mk+ mp + dash
- do the f.mk as if you’re trying to parry in 3s.
Maybe we’re all on crack but this dash looks faster than it supposed to be. Something to do…
Try it out at the arcade and tell me if I’m on crack.
So post a comment with what you think this is. I think that this is pretty huge even though it seems really hard to do. I don’t think it’s game breaking but I think it’s exciting enough to mention here.
In related focus-cancelling news, I was playing Balrog all day yesterday and think I found something interesting as well. I mashed out an Ultra, but apparently what I got was an EX Dash Punch that got cancelled into an Ultra. My opponent hit me and I started regenerating life, but I didn’t actually see the EX, only the Ultra. So I don’t know for sure that my EX got cancelled, but that’s sure what it looked like by looking at my lifebar. Thoughts?
Just wanted to make a post about Justin being on the CGS Live Podcast while he was in town this past weekend for the E For All Expo. For those that aren’t familiar, CGS is the Championship Gaming Series that you may have seen on DirecTV. They do games such as DOA4, Forza, Counterstrike, etc. Not exactly our scene, but they had Justin on the show and it was a damn good one! The hosts asked great questions and knew a lot about our scene, so I thought that anybody who liked this show would also enjoy their episode with Justin.
No, there is no talk about strategy, it’s all just “meta” talk about the scene and where it’s going, but anybody interested in playing Street Fighter 4 competitively should be interested in what CGS is doing because with luck, maybe they will pick up Street Fighter 4 and the fighting game scene can finally get the recognition it’s deserved for a long long time. Enjoy!
Looks like the console version of Street Fighter 4 is shaping up to be quite interesting. We knew that Dan, Fei Long and Cammy (?) were going to be added, but Sakura comes as a surprise to me, anyways. Personally, I think she looks like fun to play, even though it’s yet another shoto-type character. But hey if she’s as much fun as Ryu (and as high up on the tier list), maybe I’ll switch.
Tomorrow, Saturday September 27 at 7PM, there will be a fundraiser tournament at FFA for Mario Rangel, a fellow local gamer who recently passed away in a car accident. His family is short about $1500 for the funeral so please come and support a fellow gamer’s family. All entrance fees will be donated directly to the family and Ralph, the owner of FFA, has generously offered to match the donations out of his own pocket. The winner of the tournament will receive a $50 prize from Ralph which they can either keep or donate. If you can’t make it out, please consider donating through Paypal, as I did. The address is: hotasamug@gmail.com.
See you tomorrow! Also, there is a 2v2 team tourney at 2pm.
Holy crap, Gouken is officially in Street Fighter 4! Check this out:
You can’t make out very much aside from a shoryuken and a upwards fireball, but WOW, this is exciting news! I think we’ve all dreamed for years of being able to play Ryu and Ken’s master. This ties in with the hinting on the Capcom blog that there will be a new character unlocked on the 26th. Only two days away!
Props to T-Hawk on SRK for posting the scan. What do you guys think of Gouken? Excited? Or disappointed that there is yet another shoto in the game.
