Combo Video Extraordinaire Maj from Sonic Hurricane has recently been cranking out some great Ryu combo videos that demonstrate various aspects of the SF4 combo engine.

From the description:

0:11 The first hit of Ryu’s j.MP creates a free juggle state every time, so if you can avoid connecting the second hit, you can follow up with anything. Dhalsim’s j.LP is a useful setup because it allows you to hit him at the top of his arc from the end of yours. It would’ve been nice to juggle with a Focus Attack but it’s too slow, so i went with Ryu’s c.HK instead. Juggling sweeps is always cool.

His most recent video is the first of a series of combo video challenges, again focused on Ryu, where he tries to get Ryu’s Ultra damage scaled down to 5 points each:

Great work Maj!

Here is the grand finals from this weekend’s SBO Qualifiers at Denjin Arcade. It’s Combofiend (C. Viper) and Alex Valle (Ryu) vs. Ed Ma (Akuma) and Ken I (Rufus). This was streamed live over the weekend on UFragTV with commentary by myself and Slasher from Live on 3 with djWHEAT. Hopefully should have the matches available for download soon, but for now, you can stream it. Enjoy after the jump…

ryu-ultra

I got asked a question recently about what I consider to be “good practice.” Earlier tonight I was playing Ryu in Championship mode and played a Blanka in one of the rounds. I’m trying to learn Ryu to complement Balrog and counterpick certain bad matchups that Balrog has. I was in the corner with my back to the wall and blocked Blanka’s Ultra. I held Up Forward as I blocked so that I would jump as soon as the block stun was over and then cross him up with MK. The only problem was, I didn’t know what to follow up with because:

  1. I wasn’t paying attention to my meter because I’m still a Ryu noob
  2. I didn’t know if a combo existed that would allow me to end it with an Ultra in the corner

What ended up happening was that I did something to the effect of D+MK xx Fireball and probably ended up losing the match. But afterward, I still wanted to know if I could end the combo with an Ultra so I went into Training Mode to find out. This was the hourlong process:

ect-goldred2Here are the Top 8 Street Fighter 4 singles matches from East Coast Throwdown this past weekend courtesy of DarkSydePhil. Mike Ross and I had to play each other unfortunately, due to the way the brackets turned out.

Good games to him, sabin, and iloveu and congrats to Marn for winning! Marn, iloveu and sabin are all on the Northeast Evo 5v5 team so make sure you check these guys out because they are some of the East Coast’s finest. Also make sure you check out the matches with Fascinating, who is a relative newcomer to the competitive Street Fighter world and one of Chinatown Fair’s (NY) best players and got 3rd place.

Check out the vids after the jump!

Well here it is! The first video from season 1 of Arcade Infinity’s Street Fighter 4 ranking battle! As far as I know, anyways. Gotta apologize in advance for the poor audio quality. I didn’t realize that taking the stereo output from the game and plugging it into the mono input of my mixer would result in the announcer voice and special effects getting almost cut out. Sorry about that! :( Here are the matches:

pIGadOkeN (RY) vs. Sanchez (AB)
gootecks (RY) vs. Viscant (BL)
Ed Ma (CV) vs. Bobino (RU)
Kai (CH) vs. Mt. Sac Kid (GU)
